About the Longdendale & Hattersley Ward

The Longdendale Ward covers Mottram, Broadbottom, Hollingworth and part of Hattersley (the remainder of Hattersley is in Godley Ward).

Longdendale is 1 of 19 wards in Tameside.

The 19 wards in Tameside

Each ward is represented by 3 Councillors.  Each year, one of those three comes up for re-election (except every fourth year when everyone takes a rest).

The three Longdendale Ward Councillors are all from the Labour Party.
This ‘comfortable cartel’ has endured for over 20 years.

The current Longdendale Councillors are :
Roy Oldham, who is up for re-election in 2010.
Jonathan Reynolds, who is up for re-election in 2011.
Sean Parker-Perry, who is up for re-election in 2012.

Although Labour dominate Longdendale & Tameside, the Conservatives are not as far behind as many consider:

  • At the 2008 local elections in Longdendale, the Conservatives polled 1057 votes vs Labour with 1316.
  • Across Tameside, the Conservatives polled 36 per cent of the vote, recording a 7.5 per cent swing to them from Labour.
  • The Conservatives are the official opposition to Labour in Tameside.

Voting Conservative in Longdendale really can make a difference.
We believe being represented by 3 Councillors from the same ‘team’ means they fail to challenge each other sufficiently, and Longdendale looses as a result.
